A Reality of Presence A Reality of PresenceIn The Bluest Eye, Toni Morrison shows that anger is healthy and that it is not something to be feared; those who are not able to get angry are the ones who suffer the most. She criticizes Cholly, Polly, Claudia, Soaphead Church, the Mobile Girls, and Pecola because these blacks in her story wrongly place their anger on themselves, their own race, their family, or even God, instead of being angry at those they should have been angry at: whites. Pecola Breedlove suffered the most because she was the result of having others' anger dumped on her, and she herself was unable to get angry. When Geraldine yells at her to get out of her house, Pecola's eyes were fixed on the ?pretty? lady and her ?pretty? house. Pecola does not stand up to Maureen Peal when she made fun of her for seeing her dad naked but instead lets Freida and Claudia fight for her. Instead of getting mad at Mr. Yacobowski for looking down on her, she directed her anger toward the dandelions she once t hought were beautiful. However, ?the anger will not hold?(50), and the feelings soon gave way to shame. Pecola was the sad product of having others' anger placed on her: ?All of our waste we dumped on her and she absorbed. And all of our beauty, which was hers first and which she gave to us?(205). They felt beautiful next to her ugliness, wholesome next to her uncleanness, her poverty made them generous, her weakness made them strong, and her pain made them happier. When Pecola's father, Cholly Breedlove, was caught as a teenager in a field with Darlene by two white men, ?never did he once consider directing his hatred toward the hunters?(150), rather her directed his hatred towards the girl because hating the white men would ?consume? him. He was powerless against the white men and was unable to protect Darlene from them as well. This caused his to hate her for being in the situation with him and for realizing how powerless her really was. Also, Cholly felt that any misery his da ughter suffered was his fault, and looking in to Pecola's loving eyes angered him because her wondered, ?What could her do for her - ever? What give her? What say to her(161) Cholly's failures led him to hate those that he failed, most of all his family. Pecola's mother, Polly Breedlove, also wrongly placed her anger on her family. As a result of having a deformed foot, Polly had always had a feeling of unworthiness and separateness. With her own children, ?sometimes I'd catch myself hollering at them and beating them, but I couldn't seem to stop?(124). She stopped taking care of her own children and her home and took care of a white family and their home. She found praise, love, and acceptance with the Fisher family, and it is for these reasons that she stayed with them. She had been deprived of such feelings from her family when growing up and in turn deprived her own family of these same feelings. Polly ?held Cholly as a mode on sin and failure, she bore him like a crown of thor ns, and her children like a cross?(126). Pecola's friend Claudia is angry at the beauty of whiteness and attempts to dismember white dolls to find where their beauty lies. There is a sarcastic tone in her voice when she spoke of having to be ?worthy? to play with the dolls. Later, when telling the story as a past experience, she describes the adults' tone of voice as being filled with years of unfulfilled longing, perhaps a longing to be themselves beautifully white. Claudia herself was happiest when she stood up to Maureen Peal, the beautiful girl from her class. When Claudia and Freida taunted her as she ran down the street, they were happy to get a chance to express anger, and ?we were still in love with ourselves then?(74). As stated by Alfred Blumstein, Expert after expert and study after study has shown the lack of correlation between the treat of the death penalty and the occurrence of violent crimes. (Blumstein 68) Isaac Ehrlich's study on the limiting effects of capital punishment in America reveals this to the public. The study spans twenty-five years, from 1957 till 1982, and shows that in the first year the study was conducted, there were 8060 murders and 6 executions. However, in the last year of the study there were 22,520 murders committed and only 1 execution performed. (Blumstein 54) This clearly shows that many violent criminals are not afraid of the capital punishment. Abolitionists believe the offenders should be required to compensate the victim's family with the offender's own income from employment or community service. There is no doubt that someone can do more alive than dead. By working, the criminal inadvert-ently pays back society and also their victim and/or victim's family. There is no reason for the criminal to receive any compensation for the work they do, because money is of no jail time. This could be considered a form of slavery to some, but it is no different from the days of being sent to the yard to break stone. One of the most well-known examples of the criminal contributing to the betterment of society is the case Leopld and Loeb. They were nineteen years old when they committed The Crime of the Century. In 1924, they kidnapped and murdered a fourteen-year-old boy just to see how it would feel to kill someone. They were both spared the death penalty and sentenced to life imprisonment. (Bedau 78) Together their accomplishments included working in hospitals, teaching the illiterate how to read, creating a correspondence school, writing a grammar book, and making significant developments in the World War II Malaria Project.(Bedau 193) An inestimable amount of people were directly helped by Leopold and Loeb, Both of tem made a conscious commitment to atone their crimes by serving others.(Bedau 217) The most widely used form of execution has been electrocution. With this method of executing a prisoner, the individual is strapped to a chair along with electrodes attached all over the body. The executioner then proceeds to throw the switch sending vast amounts of electricity flowing throughout the prisoner. During this period, the prisoners flesh burns and the body shakes violently from the overdose of electricity. When it is all over, smoke is often seen coming from the head of the corpse. (Ernest Van den Haag 135) Officials often defend this punishment as not being cruel and unusual, but how can they defend the opinion in the case of John Evans who was executed by electrocution in 1983? According to witnesses at the scene of the death of Mr. Evans, he was given three charges of electricity over a period of fourteen minutes. After the first and second charges, Mr. Evans was still conscious and smoke was coming from all over his body, as a result from his flesh burning. An official at the prison even tries to stop the execution on account of it being cruel punishment, but the man was unsuccessful. Witnesses later called the whole incident a barbaric ritual. (Haag 221) Another method of execution is the gas chamber; during this procedure a prisoner is put in a closed chamber and forced to inhale lethal fumes from a sulfuric acid and a cyanide chemical reaction. (Haag 243) According to a statement given by the U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens concerning the 1992 execution of Donald Harding, there did not seem to be any civilized aspect of the gas chamber method of executing prisoners. (Haag 259) According to the report, Harding tried to hold his breath inside the chamber. When he finally began to take in fumes, his body started going into convulsions and the muscles and veins under his skin were twitching in a wave-like motion. Traveling Around the World Essay I am a great traveler known to the open world. I traveled through China, I traveled through Russia, and I traveled everywhere you can ever imagine. But my story starts in Jakarta. I didn’t like traveling but I was challenged by my friend, Benny, to discover new things in this whole world, to do things that no one has ever done, and he said he would give me a surprise if I did it, so I took the challenge. I was confused where to start, but I kept on thinking. I texted my friend where to start and he told me just to follow the Earth. I kept on wondering what that meant, until I saw the map of the Earth. I will start from Australia to Los Angeles and back to Jakarta and I will think about the transportation I will use. I will start next week. I arrived in the airport to go to Brisbane, Australia. During the flight, I met a girl who loved traveling and she said she’s ready for the challenge, her name was Jessie and she was beautiful. When we arrived in Brisbane the first thing we did was to take a taxi and stayed in a hotel called the Golden Palace. We rented a car and traveled the whole Brisbane. My favorite part is when we went to the Warner Bros Studio because we played everything there and Jessie became my girlfriend. The next day we checked out and took off to go to Beijing. Benny transferred $60,000 to my account to help me continue the great travel. When we arrived in China, we went to a national park and rode a bike around it. The view was amazing but we had to leave. Before we checked in we bought cheap cameras in a black market store. We stayed in the Grand Hyatt hotel and we got the suite room, it was huge and luxurious. The next day we checked out and went to the Great Wall of China. We had no time to walk just a quarter of the whole Great Wall but Jessie bought some amazing clothes and I saw beautiful view everywhere around it. We rode a bus to the airport and left China for Russia. Something happened during the flight. A woman was crying for help because she was in labor. She was suppose to let the baby out in Russia but it was too late so the baby was born in the airplane and I will never forget that moment in my life. In Moscow, the first we did was to wear our thick winter coats and jackets. Now Everyday in Moscow is so cold. We went to our hotel called the Hilton. We got the luxurious suite and there was a hot tub, it felt like heaven. Jessie was sick and she couldn’t go to the Russian Orthodox Church with me. I went there alone with a train. I arrived there and took beautiful pictures. Inside it was very expensive materials. I went back to Hilton and the next day I took off to go to England. We will go everywhere around Europe in 3 weeks. When we arrived in London I met an old friend called Jonny who lived in London. He guided me in London and we had our own adventure there. First we put our stuff in Jonny’s house and we went to London’s Eye. We saw great view from that great Ferris wheel. After that we stopped in Big Ben and bought some merchandise. We went back to Jonny’s house rest for a while and walked to Madam Tussaud. The next day we went to Liverpool with a train and bought Liverpool F.C merchandise went on the Beatles’ Magical Mystery Tour, it was great to see legends. After that we went to Manchester with train to watch a soccer match. It was Manchester united VS Sunderland and united won 5-1. We went home to Jonny’s house and the next day we took a bus and a ferry to Paris. Using a bus and a ferry to Paris from London is cheap but takes a long time. We stayed in a small hotel called the Calios. We saw everything and went everywhere just in one day. My Favorite part of Paris is when we ate in a restaurant near the Eifel Tower and we kissed and there were fireworks everywhere, which was a really beautiful moment that I will remember Jessie for. We left Paris and continued our travel to Rome. In Rome, the only special thing was the Coliseum. We bought some stuff and went to Milan. Jessie Was an A.C Milan fan so we watched a match between A.C Milan VS Inter Milan and the score was 2-2. Everything in Milan has good quality so we bought clothing. After Italy, my favorite part of Europe begins in Greece. In Athens we rented a jeep, Checked in a small hotel, traveled everywhere and discovered the night life in Athens. The next morning we checked out and went to Acropolis. I was so tired in Acropolis and we went to an island there called Spetses. Spetses was my favorite island in Greece because the beach was awesome and Jessie and I had a lot of fun there. We did a lot of water sports and just chilled there. We went to 3 other islands called Hydra, Poros, and Aegina. After we left Greece we traveled around Europe. We went off Turkey, Romania, Ukraine, Poland, Scandinavia, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, until Portugal. I was very tired and rested in Portugal for 3 days. I’m also getting ready for the United States Trip. 3 days has passed and we are heading to U.S.A. We started off in Washington and used taxi to travel around New York. We took over a month in the U.S. In New York we watched an NBA match between the New York Knicks and the Orlando Magic and Knicks won. We went shopping in the whole New York and we stayed in Ritz Carlton. After New York we head to Florida. Florida was the most fun place in the trip around the world.In Orlando we went to Disney World and it was the best fun place ever. I played a lot of stuff. There were also theme parks in Orlando with crazy Roller coasters. The next day we went to Miami and watched another NBA match between the Miami Heat and The Boston Celtics which the Miami Heat won. After Florida, it’s Texas. We did a bit in Texas. We only did Horseback riding in there. But a restaurant in there has really good steak. I like the view in Texas because it’s really quite. Texas is over and Arizona is next. In Arizona we went to Grand Canyon and we did a lot of activities and in there we made a lot of new friends including 3 Indonesians who were traveling and wanted to go home so they went with us. They are 1 girl and 2 boys and their names are Jessica, Giri, and Armand. They followed us to California and we stayed in L.A for 1 week. We traveled around L.A and went to Hollywood. We met a lot of celebrities and got their autographs. Everyone told me that if you want to travel around the world the last place you want to see and stay is the sin city Las Vegas, so the 5 of us went there by bus. My friend, Benny, transferred me another $350,000 to my account to survive In Vegas. We stayed in the best hotel in Vegas called The Bellagio and we stayed in the Luxurious suite. I gambled and I won a lot of money but Armand and Giri lost a lot of money. Jessie and Jessica just went shopping and they went to the spa. 5 days has passed and I have travelled around the world, all I need to do is just c ome home safely. We left Vegas and went to London with British Airways. Rested 1 day in London and went to Singapore with Singapore Airlines. In Singapore I bought some stuff for my family and friends. I decided to go home with Benny’s private yacht and went home safely to Jakarta. I went home and my friends and family are waiting with a huge sign saying â€Å"Congratulations† and everyone cheered. A few months later I decided to Marry Jessie and the wedding theme was around the world.

A school uniform is an identifying, standardized outfit or style of dress worn specifically for an educational institution, they dictate the schools â€Å"dress code†. Generally, uniforms when used enhances uniformity among the students, irrespective of their financial status, race, and color or fashion preference; it improves the learning environment, and instils discipline; reduces security threats and thus enhances safety. Over the years, the educational system has been marred with gang related violence, bullying, safety issues, indecent dressing, and lack of discipline. The implementation of mandatory school uniform policy has a positive result via the reduction in gang problems, enhancement of school security, improved attendance and increased academic achievement. All these positive outcome definitely create a positive influence on the educational process. School uniform prepares the students for school in a much simpler and faster way. Time is not wasted in the morning in choosing and matching what to wear, thus students will get to school on time. This boosts attendance and gives students more time for studying. For example, at a school near Boston a high school senior remarks that â€Å"for some people it takes hours to get dressed. If we had a uniform it would take three minutes† [1]. The stress of matching and choosing clothes, very common with female students is eliminated and students arrive in school clear headed and prepared for the day’s educational task ahead in school. Uniforms are cost effective and they save parents several dollars that will be spent on buying casual clothes for their children. They will have to spend less when they have to buy uniform because the quantity of clothes purcha... ...trip or excursion, uniform helps in identifying them as an organized group and this in effect limits the incidence of student’s straying away or incidence of missing person. In his 1996 State of the Union Address, former president of the United States, Bill Clinton challenged schools â€Å"to teach character education, good values and good citizenship. And if it means that teenagers will stop killing each other over designer jackets, then our public schools should be able to require their students to wear school uniforms. As long as a school uniform policy is in place, students will go to school in an atmosphere devoid of fear and violence. Discipline will be maintained and students will make improvement in their academics a major priority and not bother about being judged about what they wear or their fashion sense.

Rocky Balboa Inspiration

To the handful of heroes I so highly regard, to choose one is a difficult task. From creative fictional works, like Indiana Jones, to very impacting historical figures, like Theodore Roosevelt, Rocky Balboa is a notable fictional character influencing my character. He is an iconic American Hero that impacts people's lives. He Is a well- known for epitomizing the underdog story and Influencing the minds and hearts of many. The depth and reliability he hold true to his values make him a superior to other characters in fictional works.Rocky Balboa, a man of masculinity, Is hardhearted with a vulnerability that allows people to see his true self. Here Is a man of no worth who Is a victim of self-inflicted misfortune with nothing to his name, but a dream; a dream to make his life better. This feat Is not accomplished overnight, through determination, hard work, and perseverance, he Is able to make his dream a reality. HIS dream Is modest for It was to not become the best, but be able to a mount to the best. He is able to go the distance and amount to something creating a Journey all can relate to. Stallion creates a character that inspires and enables the dreams of there.He exhibits values that I want to emulate. His character is one that set an example for me. Overtime I watch a Rocky movie, he inspires me to be a better man. He is my inspiration for being a person that feels like they have no place in the world. His ability to go the distance set a precedence in my minds and heart. Rocky changed me into a better man. His actions spoke to me, making me want to go the distance. He gives me a reason to live, giving me hope. He aspires to make something of himself when he, of all people, is given a chance to make his dream a reality.What he stands for is what I too would like to stand for. He taught me an important life lesson that impacted me so much when he said, â€Å"Life anti all about sunshine and rainbows, it's a cruel and nasty place that will beat you to your knees and leave you there if you let it; But it isn't about how hard you hit, it is about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward† (Rocky Balboa). This quote carries meaning and resonates to me. He allows me to always move forward with life. Therefore making him an inspirational fictional character for all.
